Desktop
applications have restrictions of being running on hardware and sometimes they
have specific hardware restrictions too. Desktop applications don’t usually
need internet or server for their operation. They run independent of web
browser.
Web Applications
Web
applications need web browser for their operation. They usually based on client
server model. Web applications are independent of the hardware restrictions.
But they require internet for their functionality. Web applications can be very
small and can be very complex depending upon their use.
Some of the most
commonly used and most important development of web applications are:
Communication apps
Almost
every browser has some kind of communication applications like email. Email is
used for small chatting purpose or can be used for business purposes as well.
When you use email, you aren’t just using email application, but you are also
using a web browser. You can’t use email application without a browser. Instant
messages are also an important type of web based communication application. You
can also use Facebook, twitter, Skype and such other applications for
communication over internet.
Searching Applications
Most
of the search applications are web based. A good example is Google search.
Google search, yahoo search, Bing search and other search applications are now
supported by every browser.

There
are different office work applications are online on internet, you don’t y have
to install them all on your computer. You can use them from any computer at any

most commonly used application for information retrieval.

There

web. They provide a full business and industry forecast. These applications are used in Stock exchange
market to predict the prices and stock value. Weather analysis and statistic
applications are also used online. Beside this, different sports and games
analysis is also available on internet.
Enterprise Applications

that are based on web. Now a days, all the e commerce applications are getting
online e.g. eBay, OLX and forbes.com. Beside this, many web based enterprise
applications are used in online banking, online shopping, online marketing and
online business. These enterprise applications also used cloud based
technology.
